In Memoriam: Harry Donovan, 1943-2009
PLSN: "Harry Donovan, one of the world’s foremost rigging experts and author of Entertainment Rigging, died Sept. 23 after an ongoing battle with cancer. Donovan, 66, was both an engineer and one of the entertainment industry’s most experienced and respected riggers, a unique combination. He devoted his career to studying the art and science of rigging."

This is sad news indeed. Although obviously I never knew him, he was something of a legend among amateur theatre folks around Seattle. We often heard stories of projects he'd done or things he'd said. I also must take a moment and note that PLSN, which ordinarily talks more about arena shows than conventional theatre mentioned that he had experience in "legitimate theatre" which it distinguishes from broadway, concerts, and the like.
