Stomp makes garbage sound good

The Tartan Online: "The international hit Stomp premiered at the Benedum Center in downtown Pittsburgh last Tuesday. The show has just entered its 16th season off Broadway, making it one of the longest-running international productions to date."

when i lived in new york i saw a very similar production that was also a really popular off broadway show that i absolutely loved called Nanta, a drumming/musical performance performed with cast members using cooking utensils while also portraying a comedic story about what happens behind the scenes of a popular restaurant's kitchen. i think that its amazing to see these types of productions because not only is the performer expected to act but also complete really coordinated and precise musical numbers with such exact timing, furthermore both are group performances which require all performers to collaborate and harmonize, it really amazes me. i cant imagine how much practice it takes to make sure that every beat is on cue. and to watch it is really breathtaking. i would really love to see stomp, and i like that they employ garbage and kitchen pans as instruments which shows how the writer/composer obviously feels that music can be found everywhere, and its very inspiring

Saw Stomp in New York a while back -- it was fantastic. I've always been a fan of performance art, not necessarily theater. The thing I loved about stomp was how creative they were with everyday objects. While Blue Man Group does a similar thing, the majority of their music involves other musicians and contrived instruments. Stomp generally uses objects in their original form, which seems a little more grounded. I don't know how I would feel about seeing it in the Benedum unless I was close though -- part of the fun of Stomp was seeing the actors expressions and interactions.

I saw stomp a while back in Seattle, and was very impressed with the show. I was surprised, however to learn that it's an off-broadway show. The attitude of the performance and what I"d heard about it lead me to think about it more as a musical group or dance troupe than a show. I've also seen some videos from the folks who originated the project, which are quite interesting and impressive. I'm a big fan of their ability to find music in everyday objects and to turn them from garbage into beautiful instruments.

I've never seen an actual performance of stomp. it makes me sad i missed this passed tour. at my high school, we had our own version of stomp which everyone loved. A lot of people were upset when we didn't do it this past year. i've seen what high schoolers can do, i want to see what trained professionals can do.
