Autodesk SketchBook Mobile for the iPhone and iPod touch

Between the Lines: "This is so very cool for users of the Apple iPhone and Apple iPod touch and only $2.99 which has to be a record low price for an Autodesk application excluding free products. I am a longtime Crackberry users and never really been tempted to jump to the iPhone because I would spend my time playing with all the cool things instead of working. This single application makes me really consider getting an iPhone, or at least an iPod touch."

This app looked pretty cool from the website description, so I decided to buy it and test it out. After taking a quick tour, which showed you how to change settings, etc, I started drawing. It is really just a sketch pad. You can change the color, brush size and a few other options. The files can be saved as images to your phone/ipod. Then you can email the photos to other people. Creating a quick sketch plus emailing took less than 5 minutes...granted it was a simple drawing.

I love the idea of taking someone's picture and doodling on it. It seems like a perfect was to make a class go by faster *cough Interp. couch cough*, but i can get free drawing apps that can do the same thing. I may try it just to see if i can do more on that app before i decide if its actually better enough to buy.

I think this app is really very cool. If I had an iPhone I would definitely add this app. Everyone has those moments where at some random time you get an idea, and you have nowhere to jot it down. This seems like a very convenient tool to have at anytime.

This is one of those things that sounds cool, but I get the feeling I would dislike it. Drawing a computer, no matter if it's with a mouse, touchpad, or tablet, is not the same as it is with a piece of paper.
The idea is intriguing, but a bit confusing. Being able to email something so quickly to an employer or client is appealing; but, I question whether or not this speed is worth the price of having a lesser quality drawing. The amount of time it would take to draw something on your computer or iPhone of decent quality would be much longer than just getting a piece of paper out, drawing, and scanning it.

Still, kudos for Autodesk for making something for mac and iphone. I still think they should just stop fooling around with fluid dynamics and iphone sketchpads and release AutoCAD for mac sooner. That sure would give them a profit.

I would have to agree with Andrew. Though this does seem cool, nothing compares to a pad of paper. I would buy this application even tough there are free ones just to get a handle on the autodesk layout and possible future product integrations.
