I am sad to say I had never heard of this journalist until this article. Originally it was just kinda sad, however I was interested to see his past writings and looked him up on the Variety website. I read his last blog post among others, and was throughly inpressed. Even though he had gone from writing columns to blogs, you could tell he had passion and cared about what he was doing
What's most astounding about this article is that he earned a star on the Hollywood walk. His loyalty to the entertainment business at least was respectively acknowledged during his lifetime, showing him all his efforts to keep doing what he loves was appreciated and repected. What most of us could proabably take from this article is how much he was respected by the industry's people. Granted, the articles makes him come off somewhat soft, it does show that not everything has to be cut-throat to get the job done and that personality will probably bring you more work then just your talent alone.
