Will Ferrell on George Bush
NYTimes.com: "So far six audience members have stormed out midperformance of the Broadway show “You’re Welcome America. A Final Night with George W Bush,” the comedian Will Ferrell’s lampooning of the 43rd president, according to those keeping count at the Cort Theater. But they haven’t been leaving after a particular Ferrell quip."

I always loved the parodies of George W. Bush on Saturday Night Live and knowing that Will Ferrel is now taking a similar sketch concept and making it a viable play on Broadway is exciting. I hope I get a chance to see this production perhaps over spring break or at least see the HBO version. Maybe it will run after its March 15th date.
I kind of feel bad for George Bush, there are so many parodies going around about him. I understand that public figures have to be ready for this kind of thing but I think George Bush has taken enough.
I've also always enjoyed a good Bush parody, but I feel like we've kinda over-beaten the dead horse here. I guess Will Ferrel could do a good job, but the whole thing about using a penis, I don't know, but it seems like its in very poor taste. You would think that if they had to sink so low as to put that on stage, they might think that its no use to continue to butcher the subject.
I would say my only concern, from a theatrical standpoint, is making sure that people are aware of nudity in production. Almost since theater's inception nudity on stage has been used as a theatrical element. Why should this show be any different? Clearly it is being used in an interesting manner, but isn't it's goal to cause the audience question what they are seeing. It would appear that this would be the case,
I have always thought that the beauty of this country was our ability to laugh at ourselves, including our leaders. If we are able to look back at the last eight years with laughter and not horror then we are lucky. Will Ferrell deserves a raise.
I could not agree more with Mary-Margaret, laughter is the best medicine. Yes people have beaten George a lot, but none of it is undeserved. On the other hand it is nice to see Will Ferrel do something more 'important' than the latest slue of his movies. I'm glad he is doing a comedy routine with more mind, heart and class. (pardon the 'class' irony).
