Pittsburgh Officials Discuss Replacement of 40,000 Street Lights

Doesn't sound like a terrible idea, a good one in fact. If it passes, I hope they don't just simply replace the existing street lamps but do some interesting architectural treatments to buildings and structures. Nothing would be worse than just adding some incredibly ugly, industrial looking poles all over the city.

Also, they better make sure they use a warm color temperature, or at least, some combination of warm color temp LEDs. Nothings more ugly than green/blue, unmatched LEDs.

I agree that this is a good idea. Although expensive right now, this is a change that will pay for itself over and over again in savings. Also, it did seem as though the intention was to use this as a time to convert to LEDs while also giving the city of Pittsburgh a design overhaul, so hopefully we won't have to worry about it being detrimental to the image of the city.
