'High School Musical' a well-done showcase

Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: "If you know a kid who loves musical theater or have a youngster you're trying to convert, take them to Pittsburgh Musical Theater's production of 'Disney's High School Musical.'"

Ugh. I can't hear about High School Musical without cringing. However, I've never actually seen it on stage, so maybe it is possible to take something completely silly and do it well on stage. At least the article acknowledges that the show appeals mainly to a younger audience.

Oh lord. High School Musical. Do I really have to say anything else? This show is one of those great little musicals for like 2 year olds, but after that age it just gets a little ridiculous. I'm sure that it was designed within the world of the show, and that its everything that a small child would love to feast their eyes upon. I don't mean to be overly critical, but I don't find this show idea appealing at all.

The when the community theater near my house did High School Musical I was cringing every time I walked into the theater. I agree with Hannah that it is getting people to learn about and go to the theater who might not otherwise be going, but still, really?

And now they have High School Musical 2 and 3. This has gone on a little to far in my opinion. It is not great theater and the story line has been so "Disnified" that it is not remotely connected to real life...grrrr

While HSM might be entertaining for people of a certain age group, the fact that it is being considered a piece of art is ridicules. I am not undermining the importance of just good fun, but with HSM, it has just gone too far.
