Drama students combine work and play

The Tartan Online: "This year’s “Playground: A Festival of Independent Student Work” kicked off with a spectacular light show, complete with thundering sound effects and a Skype video conference with Dick Block, associate head of the School of Drama and one of the creators of the Playground program."

I really had a lot of fun during Playground. I had heard so much about it during the year, but I had never imagined how much I would really get out of it. The work presented over the three performance days was truly spectacular.

Playground was a lot of fun and produced some amazing work. I wonder if maybe we would benefit from trying to do some of our shows throughout the year would yield interesting results. We do other shows with little budget, but rarely see so much ambition with them. I really enjoyed the challenge of trying to build interesting things on the cheap.

I think that I opportunity to collaborate with other students and play with projects outside of your concentration is so rewarding. Once we get out of college, we will not have the free time to spend a week working on dream projects with such a group of enthused participants. Also, trying to make a set on the cheap is a game in itself.

I think that Playground provided a perfect balance to the year. It provided an opportunity for people who might not usually interact to see the amazing amount of talent that we have at this school. As a side effect, it also produced some of the best work I have seen in a while.

I just think the uber long section about Dr. Horrible is hilarious. The author is obviously a huge fan -- kudos to cast and crew. Lets do it again real soon guys -- just next time Berger, don't track the houselights in :-). Playground was, as many of said, one of the best things I've done here at CMU. I definitely pushed my personal and professional limits that week -- I'm really looking forward to working on making Playground even more exciting and over the top next year.

Lechterman, IT WAS AN ARTISTIC DECISION...not really. But in all seriousness, I think Playground is an amazing part of the Carnegie Mellon experience. I do however think that we should get the week following Playground off as well to catch up on work/sleep that we missed. I look forward to next year's Playground and seeing what kind of amazing art can be created.
