SAG Board Votes To Allow Members To Vote On Strike

ShootOnline: "A vote by the leaders of the Screen Actors Guild on Sunday has simultaneously ratcheted up negotiation efforts and the possibility of strike.
The guild's national board of directors voted to formally request a federal mediator for stalled contract talks with studios and, at the same time, agreed to ask members if they want to authorize a strike."

I didn't even realize that SAG was without a contract because we haven't heard any news about this for so long. The actors seem pretty determined to not create another strike, particularly during the economic hardship that we are going through right now. This article makes it seem like little progress has been made, but hopefully they are inching closing to securing a new deal.

If they do go on strike, that would be even worse for our economy; I mean California, with the seventh largest economy is a pretty fair chunk of revenue. SAG needs to just keep negotiating to avoid a strike.

Props to SAG for wanting to negotiate and calling for a federal moderator. The alliance needs to learn the definition of negotiation. They need to talk instead of saying that is the final offer (FROM JUNE). They also can not bring the economy into the issue. Yes it is an issue currently, but the economy will not always be this way.

I hope they manage to reach an agreement and avoid another industry meltdown like happened last year. I dind't knwo there was a smaller actor's union. I wonder if some actors will gravitate towards it in the case of a strike for being able to maintain a working relationship or if they'll hold out for better contracts.
