Female Playwrights to Hold Meeting to Discuss Bias by Theaters

NYTimes.com: "Frustrated by what they describe as difficulty in getting their work produced, enough female playwrights to make a standing-room-only crowd are planning to attend a town hall meeting on Monday night to air their grievances with representatives of New York’s leading Off Broadway and nonprofit theaters."

I think that something this article only hinted at is the fact that the inequity between men and women is an underlying issue and that the problem the playwrights are having is only a symptom. We as a society would like to think that because women had their revolution and spoke their piece that we are an enlightened civilization but that still isn't even close to true.

Additionally, I worry that because of our societal norms that this forum will do more harm than good. What they did mention is the male faction's unwillingness to hear the case of the female playwrights. My hope is that this will not encourage resentment.

i hope that in the upcoming years, there becomes more of an equality in the world of playwrights. I have often thought of the progress made in general. Although women are still sometimes biased against, we have many of the same opportunities and can hold the same jobs for the same pay. This article made me realize we arent as equal as I wanted to believe.
