Behind the curtain with stagehand Joey Ansel
The Charleston Gazette : "Joey Ansel has seen it all. As a stagehand, he's watched D-list star Kathy Griffin use a spoon to devour half of a jar of peanut butter before she went on stage. He saw indie singer-songwriter Ryan Adams out behind a theater playing with action figures and firecrackers."

Joey Ansel is the kind of technician we (technicians & stage managers) should be striving to be. I hope some day I have stories like he does and that I sill enjoy my job.
This also makes the point that you can succeed in this industry with out any formal training. So why are we all here??? Well... hopefully we can take what he does a step further. (And maybe make some more money doing it ha ha ha.)
He is not quoted but a few good gems of advice were given at the end of the article. Something we should all keep in mind.
This is the technician that Carnegie Mellon is trying to train us for. Not necessarily the jack of all trades, but someone who has knowledge of all fields and can help wherever help is needed. More than just skills, the program is training us as reliable and hard working technicians and designers. Even though Joey never received formal training but today, people look for formal training in job applicants.
