Theater community should watch out for overindulgence

At some point during class last year, Dave had mentioned that in a lot of places, you can't depend on workers not showing up drunk, or hungover. Most of the class laughed, as I did, but then I realized: it's true.
Alcoholism is a serious problem both for actors, and designers and management types. High stress environments breed binge drinking (as do college campuses). I wish this article could have highlighted the problems that everyone behind the scenes faces with substance abuse as well.
I'm glad that Del Valle blatantly stated that the purpose of the article is not embarrass the theatre community, but instead to bring the issue to light so that things can move in a positive direction. In my eyes, it's insanely unprofessional to be drinking during a performance, but it's just one of those problems that comes up.
I agree with Kevin. When I first saw the preview of the article I was offended. I thought "theater has a drinking problem...and hollywood has a substance abuse problem, what else is new?". We also have to realize its not just theater.
