This report gives me a lot of hope for the future in the Middle East. I think it's wonderful that art can be used to heal the wounds inflicted by an oppressive regime. I really loved the sentiment that a resurgence of the arts in Iraq teaches the people to trust life again. It's difficult to even imagine what that sort of oppression would feel like in the states, and I think it's really important as artists to remember how good we have it, the fact that we can use art to say whatever we feel without much fear of punishment. We are very lucky to have the ability to do what we love and to make a statement at all.
