I saw this article somewhere else and thought about how awful it was. I understand the motivation for bars to do this, but it's just going to end up with legitimate theaters having more problems getting smoking onstage okayed. This "loophole" affects real people, and I wish the bars would realize that and not screw the theater industry in the process of trying to get around the law.
This situation is creating a connotation that theater is a rebellious lifestyle. It reminds me of the Federal Theater Project events. I'm sure that theater itself won't be affected in the same way, but if theater nights catch on nationally, as smoking bans catch on, who knows what could happen.
