SAG Foundation Funds Becoming Depleted
Backstage: "When Brenda Ricci went to the bank to deposit a dollar into her account so her grocery purchase at Trader Joe's wouldn't bounce, she was a little embarrassed. After admitting her feelings to the bank teller, she realized she wasn't alone. He told her lots of people have been making minuscule deposits lately."

It's a frightening time in the silver screen business. At first my only fear from the strike was "is Elliot going to get together with JD?! Damn you writers!" But now that the strike continues to rage today, I'm even given up turning on the television to look for something new. Each article I read on the matter just gets more discouraging. This ones upsetting to hear because I cannot imagine what it must be like to lose a job then lose your emergency funding. Why is it taking so long to settle this matter?
Things are definitely getting more and more discouraging, I don't think anybody thought the strike could last this long. There are going to be a lot of industry professionals in a hard financial situation when this is over even if it ends soon.
I am surprised that if the SAG Foundation knew funds were depleting, they would make an effort to really pull in some money with the SAG Awards, which for a time looked like the only awards show of the season (looks like the Oscars are a go now). They could have made a lot of revenue through advertising and such without really spending money on the ceremony. Fortunately, it looks like the strike is almost over, so everything should work out.

i couldn't agree more
it was hard enough to find a job in this country to begin with, but now that an estimated 10,000 people have been out of and in search of work in addition to the current unemployment rate, it's even worse. a job at the gap that sometimes only offers 4 hours/week? that's pretty bad...
This was a very depressing read. No one wants to see other people in time of trouble (okay, most people don't), and SAG is the only hope for some people. At the same time I wonder how many of those people are actors, and not just concession stand workers that need to be members of SAG to serve popcorn. No matter what the reason, this just goes to show you why it's a good idea to donate when times are good, so that times like now aren't so bad.
