Arena Stage gets modern upgrade
Variety: "Arena Stage has broken ground for a $125 million renovation project that will transform its aging complex on the D.C. waterfront into a sleek, functional modern facility. Scheduled for completion in late 2010, Arena's new Mead Center for American Theater will house three performance spaces and supporting features under a single roof."

I was looking at the plans for the new complex and they look really cool. Very interesting architecture both inside and out. And the theatre is right on the waterfront, by the looks of it I'd love to work there once its finished. Thankfully Arena was able to get the funding they need.
That is a pricey venture but from the architecture's renderings it looks like a modest renovation. These kinds of leaps forward for bigger and better theaters will cause other theaters to rethink how they do business and hopefully follow in the future.
i was taken back by this because of the two recent articles on theatre spaces, one in philadelphia. hopefully these new renovations will bring new and bigger audiences. if not, it may not be worth it.
