'Anne Frank' musical in motion
Variety: "'The Diary of Anne Frank' is an unlikely vehicle to be made into a musical, once strictly the realm of love stories and lighter fare. But a Spanish tuner based on Frank's written account of her experiences -- starring a 13-year-old novice selected by the public -- is being readied for its premiere this month in Madrid, despite the misgivings of the book's copyright owners."

I can more thanj understand why this book being made into a musical be a subject of controversy. It is not something people want to remember and most of all they don't want it sung to them for two hours in a theatre. But I think this is the best time to put on this kind of thing. With the war still going on people need to be aware. Of course I'm sure this is not the reason for Spain production but non the less we will hear about it and it will get us thinking. I think thats why we are seeing the musicals and plays that are playing on Broadway right now. People do not want to hear about the war so they are going for production that are the furthest thing from war based or now reality even.
It's interesting to see that this is still going on and how hard the production is fighting to stay afloat. Maybe this can be useful in some way and have a strong impact on its audience despite the surrounding controversy. Though I'm not sure how this is going to be received after such bad commentary I think it's more valuable to see it go up and what happens than to shut it down.
This is kinda weird. It will be interesting to see how the publicity affects the show, should it every open. I agree with Naomi, that I think it is more important to see what happens when it opens, rather than close it before it has a chance. I don't know, maybe not. Its a interesting argument.
This might be the worst idea I have ever heard.
I missed the memo where theatre was about capitalizing on other people's pain.
