I am somewhat surprised that they are giving this award to a sound design because sound design is something that we hear so little about. When seeing a show in NY, the sound designer tends to often be a major sound design company rather than a single designer. Hopefully we will start to see a shift towards individual sound designers being used more often, especially when they have unique sounds that can really help shape the outcome of a show.
