Beijing Theater to Hold Trial Performance

Backstage: "Critics have argued that the $360 million monument lacks Chinese characteristics and is too expensive and ostentatious to fit into the central Beijing neighborhood, which also houses China's former imperial palace and the 1950s-era Great Hall of the People, the seat of the nation's legislature."

$360 million? That's intense but knowing the monumental buildings Bei-jing houses it would fit right in. Hopefully this will be the first step to the theatrical revolution in China today. It is apparent that the performing arts is becoming more and morepopular in China and I believe this project is well worth accomplishing.

For improving the modernization and greeting Olympic 2008, Beijin has a couple of construction plans cooperated with the international companies and architects. Some of buildings surrounded by the ancient architecture look very odd. National Grand Theatre is the oddest. This past summer, I heard my friend said National Grand Theatre had not been equipped yet and it would open at the end of year! Yet, a traditional KUN opera will be touring over there in October, and my friend is scene designer. Maybe under the high pressure of “Socialism” government, anything could be possible. The theatre could be equipped with rigging, work light and intercom etc. in a short time. And they have hold trial performances in late September!
