First off, I absolutely love the monopoly-like board game graphic at the top of this article. The details are so fun, with the cards listing steps in the process of a show going to Broadway like “Training,” “Rehearse,” and “Advance to Broadway.” And of course the cartoon “How Did I Get Here?” title of it. Justin Scribner’s story of how they became a stage manager is wonderful and I strongly identify with something they said: their goal being “to work full time as a theatre maker somehow!” I feel the same way. I strive to work in theatre somehow, some way, learning and wearing as many metaphorical hats as I need to. I also loved the point about infusing the process with generosity and care. There is a lot of love in theatre, and there is also a lot of stress. It often requires an intensional choice to project that love during the process and remind yourself and everyone around you of why we do it.

I have actually followed Justin on instagram for a while know and have always been very interested in his work and I wa sso surprised to see this article about him because i know just how hard working he has and he's actually so phenomenal at his job and i'm really glad has getting some recognition for doing something that is genuinely crazy I mean 13 camera angles is a lot and having to pay attention to all of them while calling is a task only the best of the best can handle. I also love that Justin has his own calling room for the show. It makes the experience so much more intimate and really allows one to focus on the insanely crazy things going on around them while still being hard at work and concentrated. I do really hope I get to talk to Justin one day about his experiences because he is truly one of the greats.

The interview starts out with a preface that "Scribner shares how honesty and optimism launched his Broadway career", and as he talks throughout the interview its clear how genuinely optimistic, kind, and passionate he is towards everyone around him and through all his work. The way he talks about his nightly duties literally exhudes passion, just reading him talk about how much he loves what he does makes me smile too. I can imagine why he's such a sought after stage manager; working with people who clearly enjoy what they do to an immense degree and will go to a great effort to do their job because its important to them is such a privilege. He talks up his coworkers so much and really emphasizes how much he enjoys the collaborative process. I hope to embody his passion and spirit for collaboration in my work!
