It is great to see technical theatre people getting recognized for their hard work. We are often a profession that goes unnoticed (Ironically if we DO get noticed it is likely we are doing something wrong) and that can be really hard sometimes. Some people don't get credit for their work or ideas and that can be really hard. Some people also don't like the fact that at the end of the show the majority of the show's things get tossed out. But my high school TD and mentor had a take on it that I really liked, every time we strike the previous show, we create a blank slate on which to build the next one. Having awards like the one presented to Michael Wyatt also help to show people recognition for the hard work they do, even if it does get tossed or recycled at the end of the show.
