Eco Protesters Crash Sigourney Weaver Play With Confetti Cannon In Wild Moment
www.msn.com: Things did not go to plan for Sigourney Weaver and her latest play The Tempest at the Theatre Royal in London's West End. Protesters stormed the stage, interrupting the show with a confetti cannon. It's safe to say the A-Lister was probably ticked off.

Protests like these are extremely controversial and just as fascinating. While I understand that crashing a West-End production (especially one starring a celebrity like Sigourney Weaver) is almost a surefire way to make headlines and get your cause seen, it also makes me wonder WHO the protesters were trying to reach. I would argue that artists and patrons of the arts are far more likely to support environmentalist groups like Just Stop Oil than an average person. When you interrupt a performance, you alienate a group that was not formerly against your cause. Additionally, almost all of the articles that come up when you search “Just Stop Oil” on Google are about the incident during the play, but none of them really focus on the organization’s mission. I think that, while the demonstration was well-intentioned, it buried any chance of making a positive impact by turning the protest into a spectacle.
