The description of this helmet makes it sound robust and like a good (but probably expensive) option. However, a helmet is probably much cheaper than a head reconstruction surgery from bad head protection. I think the anti-microbe material was cool for keeping a cleaner/healthier cushion within the helmet unlike the standard foam strip in other hard hats. The chin strap and other shell impact resistant technology seems ideal for theater use–specifically in an education setting like this where more errors are made in safety such as dropping tools through grids and making safety mistakes. Coming back from the summer and hearing other summer stock stories it seems there is a small shift beginning from the hard hat into the helmet direction as it is regarded as a better option of the two. I wonder if/when the hard hats will be replaced within the school of drama and if the school would ever shell out for helmets instead of hard hats.

I have been curious about the new OSHA hardhat rules, but haven't really been able to find anything that fully explains the changes. I do think it is funny that some of these newer helmets look like the rebel helmets when they are fighting on Endor, but so far I think I'm the only one that sees it that way. I think that making hardhats safer are a benefit for anyone that works in a space where hardhats are mandatory, and this safety helmet does look pretty good. I have seen a lot of the newer safety helmets have more attachment points for accessories, and I like that this one has integrated ear protection. I know that many of them come with attachments for a light on the front or side, and some even come with attachments for an eye protection visor (sort of like a motorcycle helmet). I think that even though some of these safety helmets are more expensive than prior hardhats, everyone deserves to be and feel safe while they're working. A head injury is very dangerous, so any progress in making PPO better is a welcome movement forward.
