The Making of A Vixen’s Tale

Immerse: We started Arcade in London in 2017, and, after some early high-profile work with the likes of Merlin (SEA LIFE, Madame Tussauds) and the Roald Dahl Museum, we were accepted onto Digital Catapult’s Augmentor programme, which brought us to the attention of WNO. When we got WNO’s call inviting us to pitch for their latest immersive installation, we were thrilled.

Sometimes I feel like half of my comments on this blog are just about wanting to visit an exhibit or see a performance, and this installation of augmented reality is not an exception. First, these wooden walls with all their layers and laminations are beautifully fabricated – except for the horizontal seams across the walls, but I think that can be overlooked. Xavier Segers’s illustrations were wonderfully brought into three dimensions with this concept. I love how no single component of this experience is dominating over another. The physical scenery is gorgeous, the media matches the vibrancy of Segers’s artwork, and the soundscape is just as interactive and immersive as the media. What an interesting design inspiration – the 18th century tunnel books expanded to life size – and what an interesting story to bring to life with it. I will need to look into Arcade and the other work that they do because this project has blown me away.
