12 Awesome Women Makers at Maker Faire Miami 2019
makezine.com: Maker Faire Miami — which takes place at Miami Dade College’s Wolfson Campus in downtown Miami — is celebrating its 6th year, of showcasing Miami’s talented, diverse community of makers this weekend, April 6 & 7. The city is renown for its melting pot of cultures and this is evident in the wide range of projects on display at the event. Supported by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the event will feature inventions and interactive exhibits across the spectrum of science, engineering, art, performance and craft.

Reading this article, I was absolutely amazed with what these women were able to create. They've been able to make names for themselves, or their collaborative companies, because of how passionate they are. Most of them have mixed backgrounds in things like design, or architecture, and it's interesting to see how this knowledge and adapted it for whatever they wanted to make. It's also super cool that they were able to mix both art and science, because so often we often keep clear defined lines between them, but when we mix them we often get truly spectacular products. I was really drawn to the work of Natalie Zlamalova and her associated group AMLgMATD. If you visit their website you'll see photos of abstract pavilions and eye catching installations. All of their work is very fun to look at, with bright colors, and usually in public, on the sides of buildings or in the middle of a park. There is one piece that is a bunch of three dimensional shapes covered in trash bags, so they look like these amorphous trash blobs. These pieces are fun to look at, and use materials like aluminum or rubber.
