SKALAR: Light Art and Sound Combine to Form an Immersive Concert Experience
Colossal: Made in collaboration between light artist Christopher Bauder and musician Kangding Ray, SKALAR is an audio/visual art installation that uses a large built structure and beats to create an immersive live concert. First presented in 2014 inside of the Kraftwerk Berlin industrial venue, the performance enthralls audiences with its pulsing, rhythmic soundtrack and entrancing light show.

Being in the live entertainment industry is sometimes so hard and discouraging because of all of the negativity in the world and the backlash that people have to endure whenever they try to do anything new and exciting. But sometimes, you stumble across something that is just plain cool. This Skalar light and sound art installation is just that, cool. However, I find it kind of hard to be just considered an art installation due to the size of the production, it seems that it takes up most of the space in a warehouse to really get the full effect. But no matter the title, kudos to these designers who managed to make something so unique and fun. The automated mirrored disks that are used as scenery and as interaction for the lighting is truly genius and a refreshing twist on basic materials. Finally, it is the sound that ties everything together with beautiful soundscapes that transform the room that you are standing in.
