I find it rather delightful that as a musical which celebrates nerds this production also gives its technicians and designers the incredible opportunity to be nerds themselves. By utilizing cutting edge technology, the show reflects the technologically advanced world which both Gates and Jobs aspired to in their garage-inventor days, and lets the production team experience the same type of how-is-this-even-possible joy which the two men they seek to celebrate once did. Even more so, the idea that the technicians want to revolutionize and redefine the audience or user experience of the production itself further honors the mission of these "founding fathers." Whether or not the story or the music or the acting wows, the utterly graceful treatment of the material with which the team is working and the respect paid to the men whose stories they tell will make this a production worth noting. Respect indeed, nerds.
I am excited to hear that yet another CMU alum is kicking butt and designing a show on Broadway! I cannot wait to see the costumes!
I am also excited to see all of the interesting tech that the producers have announced that will be showcased in the show.
I think that this production and story will serve as a great way for the new discoveries and inventions in the theatrical world to be showcased.
I, however, am never a fan of audience interaction through the usage of applications on a phone. Phones serve as a distraction from what is going on on-stage. I also do not like the idea of phone usage to enjoy the production because I believe that theatre should be universal, not a privilege. Having to have access to a phone in order to completely immerse oneself in the action of the production keeps away potential audience members who either don't have access to a smart mobile device or those who don't know how to use one.
Overall, I am excited about the content of the musical, along with the technical aspects. I just hope that as they move forward in the improvement of this production for Broadway that they consider more than just one demographic.
