Right-to-work laws are every Republican union-hater's weapon of choice
The Guardian: There are few crusades in American politics more quixotic than bashing unions. They are a threat that exists mostly in the imaginations of their opponents: an all-powerful, resurgent labor movement that scares investors and imperils the economy, despite representing just 11% of the US workforce. Right-to-work laws are their weapon of choice.

Right-to-work laws, despite claiming to "protect" the labor force from being coerced by unions, rather makes the labor force increasingly vulnerable to the considerably more probable exploitation by their employers. In an economic/business system already blighted by income inequality, gender/race/orientation pay gaps, and socioeconomic stagnation, neoliberal and libertarian values and policy will only exacerbate the issues. The logic behind right-to-work laws is similar to that of anti-affirmative action logic. Our country adores the concepts of "equality" and "opportunity" for all, but not the reality. We ignore our history and the exploitation, inequality, and prejudice that still exists. Unfortunately, our Supreme Court has been pegged as one of the most conservative courts we have ever had. Noting their decision on affirmative action this summer and the Hobby Lobby trumping of individuals in favor of corporations, this upcoming case is not looking good for unions.
