New Woodpeckers MFT Square One Time Tool

ToolGuyd: Woodpeckers has come out with another One Time Tool – an MFT Square. It’s designed to be perfect for squaring up Festool’s MFT multi-function tables, which are often used with Festool power tools and track saws to make straight, perpendicular, and miter cuts on sheet goods.

I’m still not sure I completely understand…a $270 square? Why. After reading the entire article I don’t understand what is so great about this square that demands a $270 price tag…its just a square. In fact its an adjustable square…WHY!?!?!?! I don’t want my square to be adjustable because I know I will mess it up and then what will I use to square it back up. Don’t know of anyone who has ever had a non adjustable square go out of square (except for when a framing square gets hit by a hammer and completely bends…). Squares are made out of stable materials for a reason. Now, I will say, this square has some features I like. First off, its square, that always good; Second, it has long sides for maximum reference points; and finally most importantly the sides are tall. That is something that has always annoyed me about square, framing squares are sometimes too slim and speed square or combination squares don’t sit flat since one edge is made to run along the side of a board. But these features do not make me want to fork out $270, $40…maybe, that’s a good price for a nice woodworking square but $270 for a square that is made for festool (OH! That’s why its so unnecessarily expensive, its for festool) is not worth $270. Whats to stop me from taking two pieces of box tube cutting them on our extremely precise saws and welding them together? BOOM free square that I could make taller or longer.
