www.eventmanagerblog.com: Hybrid events are predicted to be one of the big event trends of the next few years. A hybrid event combines a traditional “live” in-person event with a “virtual” online component.
Whether you are an event manager planning your first hybrid event or a speaker preparing for a presentation with an online audience you need to think carefully about how to communicate effectively and engage with remote participants, as well as those in front of you in the room. This post looks at some of the basics to consider.

I thought it was interesting that a lot of these tips pertain to regular meetings as well. Things like dress codes, strong facilitation, time keeping, rehearsing and using social media are often huge parts of running a traditional meeting as well. I do think that they may change a bit for hybrid meetings as you are now incorporating an online audience that may have different needs depending on their role in the meeting. I wonder how differently these tips would affect a facilitator who was attending a meeting digitally than a regular participant.
Personally I think that when you can avoid having a hybrid meeting, you should. The technology as it stands is still relatively unreliable and distracting during meetings, despite the leaps and bounds programs like Google Hangouts and Skype have made. The conveniences of these sorts of meetings are outweighed by the number of ways they could prevent information from being shared properly or group members from fully engaging.
