Opera votes to postpone closure

UTSanDiego.com: Following a nearly five-hour emergency meeting, the San Diego Opera’s board of directors voted Monday to reset the clock on the opera’s looming liquidation.
Rather than close shop and begin selling assets on April 14, the day after its fourth and final production of “Don Quixote” closes at the Civic Theatre, the opera is giving itself two additional weeks to re-evaluate its financial condition, consider additional options and possibly find a way to go forward for at least another season.

I'm scared of this common trend in which we begin to let classical art forms suffer due to insignificant financial support. I really don't understand how the opera committee could vote mid-season to close and dismantle their institution without the consent of its employees and supporters. I can only hope they can come to some kind of positive and lasting solution to their financial troubles and sustain the classical art in San Diego.
