‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch’ Review: Neil Patrick Harris Soars in Spectacular Revival

Variety: The screaming starts when a bespangled Neil Patrick Harris parachutes onstage in “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” and doesn’t stop until he’s back in his dressing room. That’s the kind of rock-star performance he gives in this spectacular revival — helmed with fabulous flash by Michael Mayer — of the 1998 musical (and later movie) by John Cameron Mitchell (book) and Stephen Trask (music & lyrics). Harris’ Hedwig is an imperfectly transformed transgender woman who grew up in East Berlin before the wall came down, resplendent in the punk drag of a nihilistic rocker but still concealing a heap of hurt under her wig.

I am so glad this show went to Broadway and Neil Patrick Harris is giving it the PR that it deserves. I did my foundations 2 paper on this show. I worked on a production of Hedwig is a bar in New Jersey and a wonderful part of the show was the intimacy of the small bar with such a wild main character. The impact was so much of the show. I am interested to see if the Broadway show gives the same impression. I also really want to see Harris in the role, the review says he is amazing. It is so important that he basically rule the stage and keep the audience's attention for like two hours.

As I said in a previous comment, I can't wait to see this show! Not only does it sound fabulous, I'm a huge Neil Patrick Harris fan and I think he would be absolutely spectacular in this. There is a reason he is so famous, because he is real talent and he works hard for it. He is so good that even with his fame, it would not take away from the show. The review says that he is amazing and I wouldn't doubt it for the world. So glad that this show is getting such great reviews! I'm excited!
