The Mic That Changed Everything
www.avnetwork.com: As microphones go, it’s the tool of choice for rock stars worldwide. As a first purchase, it signifies a rite of passage for garage musicians who predict rock stardom in their near futures. As audio gear goes, the Shure SM58 is an extremely democratizing piece of technology: it meets the needs of the most important VIP s, but it doesn’t require an A-list budget.

It is really amazing how much impact a single microphone has had on the world. It makes me wonder what was going through the Shure product designers head when they came up with the '58. Did they expect even remotely how prevalent it would be? It is only recently that I learned about just how widespread the SM58 is in the entertainment world, and this article reinforces that idea for me. It is versatile, affordable, and durable: 3 of the most important qualities people look for in products, especially those the intend to rely on heavily.
When I read the title of this article I IMMEDIATELY thought of the trusty Shure SM58. When I think of microphones I always think of the 58. If you're on a limited budget and need a mic, GO WITH THE 58. You can't go wrong. Not only does the mic sound phenomenal, if you forget your hammer, you can just use a 58. Seriously these things are indestructible. In the event of a nuclear war the only things that will survive are the cockroach and the Shure SM 58.
