Adobe brings Lightroom photo editing and sync to the iPad

The Verge: Adobe is today introducing Lightroom mobile, an iPad version of its powerful desktop photo editing and organizing app. Lightroom mobile can be used on its own, but it's really built to be a portable extension of Lightroom 5: it automatically syncs collections of photos back and forth between the two apps, letting Creative Cloud subscribers make edits on the go and always have the latest version of their photos with them.

This sounds like a great thing, and then disappointment sets in when you read the last paragraph. There's always a catch isn't there? It is kind of unfortunate that you can only us e it if you in fact bought Lightroom 5. What if someone just wanted a better photo editor for their iPad and don't do any photo editing on their computer? Then they'd be wasting money.
Putting that large issue aside, this actually looks like a pretty useful tool. I know a lot of people that take pictures using their iPads and want view it right away. This way, they don't have to wait until they get home to edit the photos and see if they got any decent shots. They can now just start editing as they sit there and then retake anything that they need to without going home and then having to come back to the shoot. This is especially the case when there is no way for you to go back to the shoot.

I don't use light room or have an iPad, but I like what adobe is doing with this app. I hear a lot of people who say that in the near future no one will need a full computer because they can do everything on a tablet. Tablets are great, but so far we have never seen a really powerful tool actually work on a tablet. The fact is that full computers are still the best way to do real complex work. That's not to say that tables don't have a place. Adobe is really making to programs that work really well together, but each have their own advantages. I see a lot of companies saying that the app version of their software is just as good as the desktop edition, but they always fall short. Adobe understands how the platforms are different and uses those differences to make better products.

I use lightroom for the computer and I already love the program and while I personally couldn't have imagined it working well on a tablet adobe seems to have pulled it off. It looks like they really adapted the program for a touch screen form factor. This will be really helpful for photographers on site because they can take a picture and then immediately do some touch-ups to present something closer to the finished product.

This lightroom application for the iPad seams like a cool toy to have, but I don't think it would be super useful for those you don't have the computer version. If the computer needs to be used to complete the editing, then why would people edit the photos completely on the computer? The fact that you need to pay 9.99 a month to use this application is crazy too. A n iPad is very limiting for photo editing and there are many photo editing applications that already exist that seem as if they can do the same features. If your going to edit photos in my opinion it needs to be done on a computer.

I'm absolutely stoked about this app. I actually have some of my most successful photography come from the iPad. To have a powerful photo editing application like lightroom on the iPad, I can't even imagine the quality of the photos that I'll be getting now. I'm even more excited that I get it with my subscription as is!
