Wingspace Studio to Design PQ Exhibit

sightlines.usitt.org: Wingspace Theatrical Design, a collective of 22 artists with a studio in Brooklyn’s Old American Can Factory, won USITT’s national competition to design the United States exhibit for the 2015 Praque Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space in Prague, Czech Republic. The PQ, the world’s largest performance design event, draws over 25,000 visitors to Prague every four years. USITT oversees the design, construction, and funding of the U.S. national exhibit, a process that began right after PQ’11.

Wow! This looks like an experience of a lifetime! This is a designer's heaven! It is great that they have designers, curators, directors, and so many others, come from everywhere in the world. It really makes it an international and collaborative event. It was a nice surprise to see a fellow Houstonian, Kevin Rigdon, in the article. He actually teaches at the University of Houston and is the resident set designer at the Alley Theatre. The way in which they choose a designer for an event like this seems complicated, but I know that it must be very difficult to pick one for an event this large. There is so much to learn at an event of this proportion. It is fantastic that they have a conference like this not only to keep up with the newest technology and see what other designers are doing, but also to know that there is a giant society of theatrical designers out there! I would absolutely love to go to this someday!
