Universities, theaters in 4 cities to join in creating new theatrical productions on Civil War

Fox News: Four major universities are joining theater companies in Boston, Baltimore, Washington and Atlanta in a project to commission new plays, music and dance compositions about the Civil War and its lasting legacy 150 years later. The National Civil War Project is being announced Thursday in Washington and will involve programming over the next two years to mark the 150th anniversary of the war between the North and the South. Beyond commissioning new works, organizers plan for university faculty to integrate the arts into their academic programs on campus.

This combination of education, professional theatre, and history is awesome! I love all three of these fields and to see them come together in such a way is so cool. Everyone involved in these productions is gaining something, which is the best type of relationship you can have. The students at the universities are gaining professional experience that is not always available in the classroom. The theatres are getting extra help and more creativity. And the people that go to see the play are learning about a very important time in our history in a different light or from a different aspect. This type of work is amazing and other universities and cities should learn from it!
