Jamie Hyneman On Welding in His Workshop

Tested: The high shelves lining the walls of Jamie's workshop hold storage bins with build materials for every possible occasion, but the shelves themselves are fascinating as well. Jamie talks about how he designed and built these shelves himself--not with woodwork, but with welding.

This is actually one of the best ways Ive heard anyone explain the simple nature of Arc Welding and the versatility of having a welder in your shop. Not to mention I am fascinated with Mythbusters and their shop. Its entertaining to hear him try to figure out how to describe the different parts of welding.

Lastly i would like to point out how friggin awesome that little battery powered hobart welder is. Im not personally familiar with much Hobart gear but that thing would be perfect for a team loading in a show or on tour. Tod Brown told us about how they once had to completely unload the train of ringling brothers to get the welding machines (and gas) out so they can fix one of the trailers that broke.

The best part of this video for me was that little Hobart battery powered welder. Those 110v flux-core welders can be really handy since you don't shielding gas and to moves those tanks around, even though the weld isn't quite as pretty. But a battery powered welder is even better, especially like they said, for off-roading or something out of the shop that's difficult to access. I might buy one now just to keep in my truck, because I can...
