The Distinctively Dutch festival has brought a lot of really cool things to the city. It's not often that innovators, designers, artists, etc. get to share work internationally on such a close level. There is a good mix of all disciplines as well. I personally have seen some of the theatre which has come through (and was a surprise audience participant in Diespace.....), and have heard positive things about the other facets of the festival as well. The talk about what makes an interesting and successful city sounds particularly poignant. It is easy to get lost in an Americanized ideal of what urbanization should be, so sharing tools and tips on an international level could be helpful in creating a more diverse and unique future for Pittsburgh.

I agree that the whole idea behind this festival is really exciting. I had only previously heard about it through the show diespace which some of my friends saw a few weeks ago. I'd never have thought that a direct comparison might be made between two cities like Pittsburgh and the Netherlands (I assume they mean Amsterdam or another range Dutch city specifically?), but I'm also impressed with the multiple ways they are approaching it-through theatre, panels, and other such events. I'll be interested to hear responses to the rest of the festival once it has all ended.
