Do You Need Glue

Popular Woodworking Magazine: After three days of work, we are going to start assembling the workbenches we are building at the Marc Adams School of Woodworking tomorrow and are coming to a familiar fork in the road.
Should we assemble the benches using glue or not?

i think that people use glue too much! in fine woodworking a good joint doesn't need glue to hold itself together. that's part of designing your joints and the rest of the project so that the joint properly resists the forces on it. the japanese have made an art of this. the problem is that it takes time both to lay them out correctly and to cut and fit them. glue lets you get away with less strong joints by holding them together. this is the route that theater takes time is as much of a factor as money if not more. so it makes sense that we build beefier or less pretty parts then try to take the time and make the most efficient joint.

To glue or not to glue, that is the question.Pure natural woodworking uses great joints to hold their projects together. This is more time consuming but is very effective and extremely strong.Glue on the other hand makes projects easier and faster and many woodworkers like to complete projects quickly to move onto the other, especially if you have a workshop with orders in que.woodworking plans show us how to make joints that can be used for any project,it's just the woodworkers choice.I don't mind using a little glue when i need to push a project out quickly, but if i don't have time constraints i prefer the pure natural glue free project assembly.
