Pittsburgh Ballet's 'Streetcar Named Desire' promises an emotional ride

post-gazette: Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre knows how to push the boundaries of ballet. In February 2009, it illuminated the delight and devastation of young love with a bold European retelling of "Romeo et Juliette." That fall, it commemorated the 71st anniversary of Kristallnacht with "Light/The Holocaust & Humanity Project," a choreographic interpretation of a Holocaust survivor's journey from normalcy to genocide to redemption.

This is really interesting. I've always liked A Streetcar Named Desire, but have absolutely no idea how it would translate into ballet. It's exciting that the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre is the first company to preform this show in the United States. The article says it's not a direct translation of the play, and the entire point of view is shifted more to Blanche. I'd be interested to see what the writing and choreographing process was like, as they found the best moments for acting and the best moments for dance, and combined them to show emotion and character depth, and (hopefully) create a great story.
