Off Off-Broadway Establishes Independent Theater Fund
Playbill.com: Mabou Mines, The Living Theatre, PS 122, HERE Arts Center, the Amoralists and the Tectonic Theater Project are among nearly 50 Off Off-Broadway theatre companies that have aligned to help establish the Independent Theater Fund.

Part of me is glad to see Off Off-Broadway getting a bit more organized, but part of what makes OOB great is how independent it all is, and I hope that that won't be lost. Sure, fundraising is never a bad thing, but I wonder if any of these changes will make them a more visible part of the New York theatre scene and get new butts in seats? certainly, less traditional theatre has a following in NYC and it tends to be a lot of artists supporting their friends, but I think that the League of Independent Theatres should make is more part of their mission statement to actually outreach and convince Broadway-goers to try the downtown scene, which this doesn't seem to do directly.
