Multitouch Emulator System Now Offers Lighting Control
iSquint.net: SmithsonMartin Inc., the company that brought musicians and producers Emulator and which released the Kontrol Surface 1974 last December, announce its new Emulator Modular 1.0 software. The new software, which is available now at several online retail stores and directly through SmithsonMartin’s website, extends the proven functionality and flexibility of the Emulator control platform to a much broader range of music professionals beyond the DJ universe.

I have seen EDM artists use SmithsonMartin's transparent touchscreen interfaces live, and I think the company really is headed somewhere big. Their displays are visually stunning and so is the software they run on them - being able to customize an interface to the end user's specific needs can speed up the learning curve of almost any software suite controlled by the device. The example given by the article of using SmithsonMartin's software to make controls for complicated media servers and lighting control systems condensed into an easy-to-use interface is extremely useful.
....well damn color me impressed. Finally (what seems to be) a feasible customizable interface. With the midi capabilities this software seems to have opens a lot of capabilities. For DJ's its a dream to be able to make mixing layouts exactly how they are comfortable working. On the flip side this software will open great possibilities for lighting designers running concerts or other grand performances granting them a visual control layout. Another potential use as will points out is this interface could possibly be an answer to having 4 different board operations during a show. With the customization ability of this software a control point for media and lighting is not too much to ask for
