Legit theater creatives spawn apps

Variety: There's an app for that, as the saying goes. But an increasing number of entrepreneurial theater folk have noticed that for a lot of day-to-day legit work, there isn't an app for that -- and they've set about remedying the situation.

During Playground I saw that the space supervisors were walking around with the rehearsal schedule up on their iPads, which got me to thinking about an idea for an app similar to the ones described in this article. I think that the most valuable part of having an electronic version of paperwork is that it can be changed instantly, precisely, and uniformly, unlike printed paperwork, which must either be edited and re-printed (which takes time and resources) or just be written over in pen.
I think the ultimate app (for the PTM world) would build on StageWrite, but also have a function for editing paperwork (and e-mailing them to your specified contacts), as well as the ability to view or edit technical drawings (see more on that below). The most useful function I can think of would be for all these pieces to exist on a cloud. Just imagining this gets me excited.
I'm sure in 20 years everything in the theatre will turn digital. My proof is the recent e-mail I received from AutoDesk:
Now you can view and edit AutoCAD drawings on your mobile device. AutoCAD WS, a free* app from the makers of AutoCAD software, enables you to view and edit AutoCAD drawings from your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Android mobile device, or web browser.
