Under the general direction of the TMS (Theater Management Services) Director of Operations, the Venue Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day functions of the Royce Hall theater and ancillary spaces in terms of technical, custodial, safety and security issues. The Venue Manager works with the Production Manager in executing all production-related tasks, i.e. hanging and focusing lights, assembling sets and props, operating stage machinery in a safe manner and handling scenery in an accepted manner. This position advises the Production Manager of stage requirements and limitations in support of over 200 events presented in Royce Hall annually. Disseminates information to various on & off campus entities requesting the use of Royce Hall and/or ancillary spaces. Recommends various improvements to the TMS Director of Operations for review & funding on an annual basis. Coordinates the execution of these improvements with Facilities Management as appropriate. Develops annual Royce Hall maintenance schedule, holding time during summer months and Winter breaks to supervise maintenance projects within Royce theater facility and/or ancillary spaces. Represents Royce Hall tenants as the emergency response leader and also regarding building-wide issues. Supervises Lead Carpenter, Lead Electrician, Lead Sound-A/V, Utility Electrician and Custodial Supervisor. Leads all supervised employees in their understanding of the use of theater equipment including lighting, sound, rigging, fly systems as well as various shop tools.

Requirements include: Demonstrated skills in both carpentry and electrical work; Working knowledge of technical theater and its application to a wide range of theatrical productions; Ability to instruct stage crews in technical theater applications including issues relating to safety and security; Ability to interface with performing artist(s) and/or their company manager/technical director to determine all aspects of technical theater requirements of any given production;  Ability to interface well with stage crews in setting cues and rehearsing the running of a wide range of productions;  Ability to read and understand light plots and to both participate and supervise required lighting installations;  Ability to read, interpret and execute blueprints or shop drawings in the construction of furniture, scenery, props or building improvements; Working knowledge of shop operations including the use of power hand tools, stationary power tools, jigs and fixtures; Ability to instruct stage crews in the use of shop tools and carpentry skills; Working knowledge of Windows PC and the latest technology and computer programs to meet job requirements; Skills would include the rigging of stage draperies and borders, the working of chain hoists, counterweight and fly systems, lighting systems, shop operations.
