I think that this was a terrific opportunity for SAG, in hosting this group of actors. I think it is the US and Europe that hold the power of the film, television, and music industries. There really isn't much mention of these things in third world countries. Not that there isn't talent there. But the talent usually fights to get to America- Hollywood, New York, or Europe- London, Spain, and perform. It is really important that these places host all walks of talent and people. At the same time, it is crucial that we understand a different perspective to our own entertainment from another party. The article says that the Nigerians definitely had their opinions heard and that could only benefit future work.
First off, I had absolutely no idea that film was just a large part of the Nigerian economy. As I have said many times on this blog, I think that groups coming together and sharing ideas and thoughts is never a bad thing, and apparently SAG and the Nigerian Actor's Union feel the same way. I don't know what, if any, agreements already exist between the two groups or SAG and other international film actor's unions, but I feel that there are many things we can learn from each other and some sort of exchange program might be beneficial to all parties. In addition, I think that the more films can work internationally and appeal to an international audience sharing international themes and ideas, the more we can connect as a global community and work together as a large group.
