Review: 'Time Stands Still' examines validity of reporting vs. taking action
Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: Two equally compelling themes weave their way through Donald Margulies' "Time Stands Still," which opened Friday night at City Theatre on the South Side. On the surface, this contemporary drama is about a couple whose relationship has been destabilized by their war experiences.

I was lucky enough to get the chance to see this show last Wednesday. The show did bring up the question of how useful objective reporting actually is to helping a situation. I expected the show to justify reporting, proving that it does indeed help situations to simply report and not act. However, it didn’t seem to come to that conclusion at all. On the contrary, both the characters Mandy and James argue that yes, reporting is good in that it educates people about the horrible things going on in the world, but showing horror and devastation is all it seems to do. Almost no one will actually do anything about what they see in the news, so what really is the point? She show seemed to be saying that as much as we would all like to care about and fix the atrocities happening in the rest of the world, it is best to not dwell on it too much, and enjoy the life you have.
