Bush Theater Celebrates King James Bible With ‘Sixty-Six Books’

NYTimes.com: God’s terse first line in the Book of Genesis — “Let there be light” — was ready-made for the Twitter generation. If only the rest was as crisp, the British novelist Jeanette Winterson recalled thinking, as she began to reckon with that first book for a new theatrical project on the King James Bible. And then it hit her: Maybe God’s wisdom would crackle for a modern audience as Twitter posts of 140 words or less.

This looks like a lot of fun: looks like part re-telling of the narratives and myths in the Bible (with perhaps a hint of satire here and there.) Something, I think, that allows the Bible to have such influence on people is the stories they tell: some are comepelling and awesome, some are sad, some are romantic and trashy, and some are just poorly told. The diversity of stories allows for diverse messages, ideals, and sermons to be all based on one book. Now these diverse stories are being told by a very diverse group of artists and performers (Billy Bragg and Catherine Tate? I'm in!) Not quite a re imagining yet not quite the Book of Mormon, I think this piece can be both very funny yet very poignant.
