CPSC votes to look at rule to make table saws safer, cut injuries

The Washington Post: The agency estimates consumers suffered about 67,300 medically treated blade-contact injuries annually in 2007 and 2008. Including medical costs, lost time from work, and pain and suffering, the injuries cost more than $2 billion in each of those two years.

Adding a SawStop-like safety feature to table saws would definitely be worth the money. Not only is injuring yourself a really bad thing, so are the liabilities involved with people getting hur and the costs involved with lawsuits. I agree that Gass's safety system can't be a monopoly, and that other manufacturers should be able to develop their own systems similar to his to incorporate into their table saws.
