Back on the Horse: Mel Brooks Penning Songs for Blazing Saddles Musical
Playbill.com: "At the end of Mel Brooks' Broadway musical Young Frankenstein, the cast asked, in song, if a stage version of Brooks' hit film 'Blazing Saddles' might be also be in the wings. After all, Brooks had already also made a hit stage musical out of his film, 'The Producers.'"

Ok, I love Mel Brooks, and I love his movies and Blazing Saddles is at the top of that list. But I am a little apprehensive, since I didnt think that Young Frankenstein did all that well. I was shocked to read that apparently he did get a lot of good reviews for Young Frankenstein, but maybe that gives hope for Blazing Saddles yet. I guess that maybe Brooks is just looking for another hit it out of the ballpark like the Producers. Im sure we'll see, and even though I havent seen Young Frankenstein, maybe this one will get me out to see it. Because if I dont History of the World: Part I is right around the corner. Maybe if this bringing movies to the stage thing doesnt work out this time, they can do a re-release thing to theater of these great movies, I would really enjoy that
I'm starting to feel like producers have a list of "Movies that People Enjoyed" and are just going down the list and crossing them off as they close. It's a cult movie? Expect a musical in the not so distant future. Movies like Blazing Saddles, and Monty Python, were filmed in a way that I would not expect to transfer well to the theater, however I think that Monty Python did fairy well. In the end though, the thing is that the massive cult following to these movies, while might give you some early ticket sales, are a guarantee that this isn't going to be around forever. People will always love the movie more, and these musicals are just starting to look like take the early money, close, cross off the list, and move on to the next one.
