‘Neighbors’ by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins Puts Old Face on Race
NYTimes.com: "The first image in the new play “Neighbors,” which opens at the Public Theater on Feb. 16, is a family of five “hooting, hollering, joking” as they carry boxes into their new home, according to the stage directions. What makes this unlike a usual move-in day is that the family, the Crows, is made up of black actors in blackface."

I was a little confused as to what this play is actually about. I mean I understand that its about studying black identity and self loathing, but I was having a hard time wrapping my head around minstrelsy. So in looking it up I realized where I think the writer Jacobs-Jenkins is coming from. In putting black actors in blackface it brings up a whole other set of issues to confront. In all I think that this will be a provocative piece in that it is doing something to shock the audience in order to bring them to a different way of thinking. If I can possibly make it, I think I would enjoy watching this show
